Promoting Educational Excellence

All of the schools in the Belmont-Redwood Shores School District provide an excellent education. Based on state standardized tests, the great majority of students are achieving proficient or advanced status on grade-level standards. Teachers and staff are doing an excellent job. For students who are struggling in school, April supports targeted interventions to help with reading, math, English language acquisition, homework, and study skills. For many students during the pandemic, social and emotional challenges have arisen. April supports working collaboratively to help meet their needs.

Building Community Connections

It’s hard to build community over Zoom. April supports the School District encouraging outdoor community events, with mitigation strategies employed to reduce the spread of Covid. April will encourage the School District to host, and support parent-led organizations that are hosting, a “normal” schedule of outdoor school and community events. Our school campuses can be the center of re-building connections among our families, staff, and community members.

Ensuring Fiscal Sustainability

As a strong supporter of the education foundation and parent-led organizations, April knows that donations from parents, businesses, and community members help BRSSD provide an excellent education that includes science, music, art, and school counselors. As the Co-Chair for the Yes on Measure K Committee in 2018, April led a team of committed volunteers working to pass a ballot measure that resulted in $1.4 million in additional revenue, which allows the district to attract and retain qualified teachers. As Chair of the Parcel Tax Oversight Committee, April ensures that the parcel tax revenues are being utilized appropriately. As a School Board member, April will continue to support the education foundation and parent-led organizations, which contribute so much towards the excellent education that BRSSD provides. April will also partner with fellow School Board members to advocate for more per-pupil funding at the state level.
